🤔 The history of AI – Part 1 🧠🤖

📚 Philosophical reflections on AI can be found as far back as antiquity. Greek philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato discussed the nature of the mind and the possibility that machines or apparatuses could be created to imitate thought processes. Archytas of Taranto, an ancient Greek mathematician and engineer, is often considered to be one of the first to explore the concept of autonomous machines. 💡 Centuries later, in the 20th century, AI experienced its modern emergence. A milestone was the Dartmouth Conference of 1956, initiated by John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, Claude Shannon, and Nathaniel Rochester. At this conference, the term “artificial intelligence” was coined and the foundations for the research and development of AI were laid. 🔍 The beginnings of AI in antiquity were characterized by philosophical considerations, while mathematical concepts and technologies drove development forward in the 20th century. Mathematical subfields, such as linear algebra, which contribute significantly to the development and analysis of algorithms in AI, were strongly promoted in the 19th century by mathematicians such as Carl Friedrich Gauss and Georg Friedrich Bernhard Riemann. ❄️ During the “AI winter” in the 1970s, there was a decline in interest and funding for AI research due to limited progress and inflated expectations.
